Weather

Mongolia has a strongly continental climate that varies a lot depending on the season of your departure. Our trips fall into two very different weather windows:

Summer rides (departures from mid-May to mid-September): expect an average of 15 to 25°C during the day. July and August are the rainiest months of the year in Mongolia, but rain mostly comes as short showers late in the day; May and September are drier. Evenings and higher-altitude areas (Khangai Mountains) can be much cooler, sometimes close to 0°C at night in early (May) and late (September) season.

Frozen Ride (departures in January): this is an extreme winter trip. Temperatures stay below freezing all day, generally between -20 and -30°C, and can drop below -40°C at night. Be prepared for intense cold that requires specific gear.

For summer rides, bring some warm clothes for the evenings as well as rain gear or waterproof clothing. For the Frozen Ride, complete extreme-cold equipment is essential: several technical layers, a down jacket, and protection for your face and extremities.

Consult general information sites and the list in your Detailed Travel Program to find out what type of equipment and clothing to pack for your trip.
