International Driver's Permit (IDP)

For most trips abroad, an international driver's permit is mandatory. It functions as a transcription of your home country's Driving License but does not replace it, so you must carry both documents while travelling.

For UK riders travelling within the European Union, an IDP is generally not required. Exceptions may apply in certain non-EU European countries, including Albania and Turkey, where an IDP is recommended or may be required. UK riders can obtain an IDP from participating PayPoint locations.

American riders can obtain an IDP through AAA.

Australian riders should apply through their state or territory motoring association.

Riders from other countries should check with the relevant government authority or automobile association in their home country.

For those who already have an international driver's permit, remember to confirm that it will be valid for the duration of your travels.

For more information by country, please refer to the section on your destination country.
